Peter Brendler is a New York–based bassist and composer originally from Baltimore. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he has performed extensively across the United States, Europe, and Russia and has appeared at venues including The Blue Note, Birdland, The Jazz Standard, Smalls Jazz Club, and The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Brendler has released several recordings as a leader and collaborator, including Two-Part Inventions with saxophonist Jon Irabagon. His new quartet album, And Then, Nothing, will be released November 6, 2026.

Peter Brendler is a bassist and composer originally from Baltimore, Maryland. After beginning on electric bass, he soon gravitated toward the upright bass and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music, graduating magna cum laude in 2001.
Based in New York City since 2001, Brendler has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Russia and has appeared at many of New York’s premier jazz venues, including The Blue Note, Birdland, The Jazz Standard, The Kennedy Center, and Smalls Jazz Club. He has performed and recorded with a wide range of artists including John Abercrombie, Barry Altschul, Bruce Barth, John Cowherd, Jon Irabagon, Frank Kimbrough, Ben Monder, Victor Lewis, Rich Perry, Steve Slagle, and Chris Speed.
Brendler has released four recordings as a leader or co-leader, including The Angle Below, a duo recording with the late guitarist John Abercrombie, and two albums for Posi-Tone Records: Outside the Line and Message in Motion. His most recent recording, Two-Part Inventions, is a duo album with longtime collaborator Jon Irabagon. His upcoming quartet album, And Then, Nothing, is scheduled for release on November 6, 2026.
